TMCC FORMULA 3
 

TMCC RR Formula 3 Class  2010

1)       Determination of eligibility remains the responsibility of the nominated scrutineer, who may use whatever resource he requires to assist in such determination.

 2)       The nominated scrutineer may, at their discretion, choose to examine one or more machines for class eligibility. If the examined machine is found to be ineligible, the scrutineer will advise the Clerk of Course of his finding.

 3)       If the entrant is unable to prove that their machine complies with the class rules, or refuses to take the opportunity to prove that their machine complies with the class rules, then the entrant will be excluded until their machine complies.

 4)       At all times, the entrant may protest an eligibility decision, following the appropriate process, as defined in the current Manual of Motorcycle Sport (MOMS).

 5)       All bikes competing in the TMCC Formula 3 Class must be clearly identifiable as either faired or naked road race machines and be in accordance with the following;

 6)       Supermoto and motocross or road/trail machines and machines outside the engine capacity limits, (refer Item 22) are not eligible for this class.

 7)       All bikes must carry all relevant compliance plates or in the case of grey imports be of a similar make and model that was ADR compliant. Single or multi cylinder specialty manufactured, 2 or 4 stroke race bikes are excluded from this class. This includes ex-factory or customer spec race machines.

 8)       Supermono frames must be of a make or model that is or was ADR compliant.

 9)       Hand built frames are ineligible for this class.

 10)   The following MUST be removed;

a)       head lamp,

b)       tail lamp,

c)       reflectors,

d)       horn,

e)       indicators,

f)         mirrors,

g)       centre and side stands,

h)       registration plate / bracket and label holder,

i)         passenger hand holds and footrest assemblies.

 

11)   The following may be replaced or modified:

a)       instruments and handlebar switches,

b)       mounting brackets for fairing screen and instruments,

c)       handlebars, but replacements must be mounted in the original position on the fork assembly,

d)       frame protection devices may be added providing they do not protrude more than 60mm from the bodywork and are no more than 80mm in diameter,

e)       exhaust system,

f)         radiators and mounting brackets,

g)       rider footpegs and footpeg mounts.

12)   The following must comply:

a)       the only liquid coolant allowed is water – no additives are permitted,

b)       lubricating, cooling and hydraulic fluid levels must be maintained within manufacturers specifications,

c)       a self closing throttle must be fitted,

d)       all machines must be equipped with an oil catch tank or sealed air box with a minimum volume of 300cc which is to be emptied after each event,

e)       a chain guard made of a suitable material must be fitted in such a way to prevent trapping between the lower drive chain and the final drive sprocket at the rear wheel,

f)         all hoses must be securely fitted and guarded to prevent contact with the ground, tyres or other moving parts and the exhaust,

g)       Any replaced or modified item must be securely fitted to the satisfaction of the scrutineer.

 

13)   The following may be fitted:

a)       steering damper,

b)       electronic instruments and timing devices, providing they are fitted to the satisfaction of the scrutineer,

c)       ride height adjuster,

d)       quick shifter.

 14)   The following MUST be lock wired:

a)       oil sump or drainage plugs/bolts,

b)       water system drainage plugs/bolts,

c)       hydraulic system drainage plugs/bolts,

d)       radiator cap,

e)       water reservoir cap,

f)         front brake caliper bolts.

 15)   Number plates:

a)       3 number plates must be fitted, one at the front and one on each side,

b)       must be produced to a matte finish,

c)       front number plates must be clearly visible at a distance of 20 metres and with a solid 10mm wide border,

d)       side number plate must be fitted above a vertical line drawn through the rear axle and be fitted so that the front edge of the plate is behind a vertical line drawn at 200mm to the rear of the riders footrest,

e)       number backgrounds on side number plates may be an integral part of the rear seat section or fairing,

f)         The number plate background must be canary yellow with the numbers in black.

 16)   Fuel:

a)       must be unleaded,

b)       be no more than 100RON,

c)       contain no additives other than those added at the point of manufacture,

d)       be readily available for retail petrol pumps within Australia.

 17)   Gearing:

a)       internal gearing must remain standard for the make and model,

b)       external gearing may be replaced with parts not manufactured by the original manufacturer.

 18)   Body Shape – the following may be replaced or modified:

a)       fairings providing it can display the required number board,

b)       be fitted to the satisfaction of the scrutineer,

c)       screens provided no sharp edges may protrude from the fairing,

d)       rear bodywork,

e)       seat,

f)         mudguards,

g)       tank covers,

h)       side covers.

19)   Body work – which must comply:

(a)  must be fitted with an integral lower fairing dam or separate catch tray, which must be constructed to trap and hold engine oil and /or coolant with a capacity of at least 3 litres and with no less than 2 holes, each of 25mm diameter, which may only be opened in wet race conditions.

 NOTE: REMOVAL OF A FAIRING DOES NOT REMOVE THE REQUIREMENT FOR A BELLY PAN. ONLY MACHINES WITHOUT A LOWER FAIRING THAT AND WERE / ARE ADR COMPLIANT WITHOUT ONE ARE EXEMPT FROM THE BELLY PAN REQUIREMENT. IF A FAIRING OR LOWER FAIRING IS ADDED, A CATCH TRAY MUST BE FITTED.

 20)   Carburetion:

a)       “if it comes with it, it runs with it”. If you have an SP engine that is fitted as standard with flat slides, then you may run flat slides. If you have an engine that comes standard with CV carburetors, you must run CV carburetors,

b)       fuel metering jets and needles may be altered or replaced but not carburetor slides.

 21)   Engine capacity tolerances:

a)       the actual engine capacities are;

2 stroke multi cylinder machines 250 -cc (+ 2%),

2 stroke single cylinder machines 250- 400cc (+ 2%),

4 stroke single cylinder machines 250- 650 (+ 2%),

4 stroke twin cylinder machines 255 - 650cc (+ 2%),

4 stroke multi cylinder machine 255 – 400cc (+/ 2%).

 22)   Air boxes:

a)       there are no rules on air boxes and leaves riders free to run without an air box, with the standard air box or with a modified or kit air box.

 23)   Suspension:

a)       front suspension springs, damping parts and fork caps may be modified or replaced but the externals of the forks must be of the same make or model, changing from upside down forks to conventional forks or vise versa is prohibited,

b)       rear shock springs and damping parts may be modified or replaced but the shock absorber body must be off the same make or model, a remote reservoir may be fitted,

c)       suspension components other than those that were ADR compliant are prohibited.

 24)   Brakes:

a)       at least 2 efficient brakes must operate independently of each other on the front and rear wheels,

b)       after market rotors are allowed as long as they are the same diameter and at least the same thickness as the standard rotor for the make and model,

c)       callipers must be standard for the make and model.

 25)   Wheels:

a)       front and rear wheels must be the same width as standard, off a road going machine of the same make or model - lightweight race rims are prohibited,

b)       naked bikes can use the same rims as the other machines in the class.

 26)    Tyres:

a)       tyres must be commercially available in Australia,

b)       be of the machine manufacturer’s recommended speed rating or higher,

c)       be worn no more than the minimum tread depth indicators,

d)       not have an augmented or modified tread pattern,

e)      may be competition use only treaded tyres,

f)        may be slicks,

g)      TYRE WARMERS ARE PERMITTED IN THIS CLASS.

 27)   CDIs and coils:

a)       must be from the same make or model,

b)       Ignition retarders are prohibited,

c)       All ignition components must be OEM and not modified but may be re-mapped.

 28)   Starter and alternator:

a)       if the machine was fitted with starter and alternator system when new, these components must be in place, in working order and securely fastened to the satisfaction of the scrutineer,

b)       the starter motor system must be capable of starting the motor, without aid, should it be required either in the pits or on the track.

 29)   Frame and swing arm:

a)       with the exception of supermono machines, frame (main structure) and swing arm must be standard for the model,

b)       minor alterations to facilitate fitment of engine to supermono frames are permitted,

c)       modifications for ride height adjustment only are allowed for all machines.

 30)   Triple clamps:

a)       triple clamps must be standard for the make and model.

 31)   Camshafts

a)       camshafts must retain the same lift and duration as is standard for the make and model.(excluding supermoto).

 32)   Engine crankcase appearance

a)       crank case external appearance must be standard for the model,

b)       alternator and timing covers may be strengthened.

 33)   Bike weight

a)       all machines without rider and an empty of fuel, but with all other fluids at optimum levels, must weigh no less than 130kg, a 1% tolerance at post race control will be allowed.

 34)   Compression ratio

a)       for supermono machines there are no compression ratio restrictions

b)       for all other machines compression ratio must be standard for the make and model

 35)   Bore Size

a)       see Item 21

 36)   Exhaust Systems

a)       Exhaust systems are free - Noise emission shall not exceed parameters as defined in the current edition of The Motorcycling Australia  Manual Of Motorcycle Sport  .

 

Special Rules for 400cc 4 stroke Multi Cylinder

 

As the 400cc class is recognised and raced at national level in both MRRDA and Formula Xtreme, it is important that the TMCCRR rules reflect this. We have opted to use the MRRDA Pro 400 Class rules to govern bikes in local and Qld competition to be as inclusive as possible

General Rules:

The bike must be manufactured pre 2000

No modification main frame

Standard Wheel front and rear, no lightweight rims

No Fuel Injection or Turbo charging

No fuel additives beyond 100 RON

No removal of starter system

Engine bore and stroke within capacity limits

Minimum weight of 150kg with tank removed

Allowable Stock class items carry over to Pro Class, 

Formula Specific Rules:

Any modification not stated as allowable is deemed as not allowed.
