TMCC Formula 3 Rules 2009 ELIGIBILITY AND MACHINE COMPLIANCE FOR THIS CLASS SHALL BE DETERMINED BY USE OF THE CURRENT MOTORCYCLING AUSTRALIA MANUAL OF MOTORCYCLE SPORT , , AND CLASS / MACHINE SPECIFIC ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA CONTAINED WITHIN THE RULES DETAILED BELOW . THE TMCC ROAD RACE COMMITTEE WILL CONSIDER ANY & ALL APPLICATIONS FOR ALTERATIONS TO THE RULES IN THE SPIRIT OF TMCC FORMULA 3 RACING. ANY PROCESS THAT INVOLVES DETERMINATION OF MACHINE ELIGIBILITY FOR THE CLASS SHALL INCORPORATE CONSULTATION WITH TMCC CLUB MEMBERS ACTIVELY COMPETING IN THE CLASS . ISSUES NOT ADEQUATELY ADDRESSED BY THESE METHODS SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE TMCC ROAD RACING COMMITTEE . CLASS SPECIFIC ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 1. MACHINES : TMCC FORMULA 3 SHALL BE COMPRISED OF A COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING MACHINES : 400cc FOUR STROKES ( As per Formula 400 Interstate Rules 2006) , 250cc TWO STROKES 650 cc FOUR STROKE TWINS SUPERMONO'S MOTARDS , SUPERLITES AND MACHINES OUTSIDE THE CAPACITIES SPECIFIED ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS CLASS . 2. ENGINE CAPACITIES Four Stroke - 400 cc (+ 0 %) Two Stroke - 250 cc (+ 0 % ) Four Stroke Twins - 399 cc to 650 cc ( +/- 5 % ) Supermono's - 1000 cc ( +/- 5 % ) 3. TYRES : TYRE TYPE IS OPTIONAL , HOWEVER EXTENT OF WEAR SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CURRENT MOTORCYCLING AUSTRALIA MANUAL OF MOTORCYCLE SPORT . 4. TYRE WARMERS ARE NOT PERMITTED 5. FORMULA 400 INTERSTATE RULES 2006 All bikes competing in the Formula 400 series must be clearly identifiable as either faired or naked road race machines with a capacity of no less than 380cc and no more than 400cc. Motard’s, "Chook Chasers" and bikes outside the cc limits do not fit into the Formula 400 classification.Body Shape a. As long as it is securely fastened and deemed to be safe to the satisfaction of the scrutineer, any road race fairings may be fitted. Carburetion b. "If it comes with it, it goes with it". If you have an SP engine that is fitted as standard with flat slides, then you may run flat slides. If you have an engine that comes as standard with CV carburettors, you must run CV carburettors. Air Boxes c. There are no rules on air boxes. This leaves riders free to run without an air box, with the standard air box or with a modified or kit air box. Suspension d. Front fork externals must be of the same make or model before January 2000. Fork caps are optional. No swapping from upside down and conventional forks either way. e. Rear shock must be off the same make or model before January 2000. It may be re-valved re-gassed, re-sprung and have a remote reservoir fitted. Brakes f. After market rotors are allowed as long as they are the same diameter and thickness as the standard rotor for the make AND model. g. Callipers must be standard for the make AND model. Wheels h. Front and rear wheels must be the same width as standard and off a road going model (No lightweight race rims) and must be off the same make OR model bike before January 2000. Naked bikes can use the same rims as the other 400’s in the class. CDI’s and Coils i. Must be from the same make OR model before January2000. Starter and Alternator j. There must be a starter and alternator system in place, in working order and securely fastened to the satisfaction of the scrutineer. Frame and Swing arm k. Frame (main structure) and Swing arm must be standard for the model. Modifications are allowed for ride height adjustment only. Triple Clamp l. Triple clamps must be standard for the model. Cam Shafts m. Cam shafts must retain the same lift and duration as is standard for the make AND model. Engine Crankcase appearance n. Crank Case external appearance must be standard for the model. Bike Weight o. Minimum weight of all 400’s will be 150kg with the fuel tank off. Compression p. Compression must be standard for the model. Bore Size q. Bore size must be standard for the model. 6. TMCC FORMULA 3 – 250 TWO STROKE MACHINE SPECIFICATIONS 6.1 . ITEMS TO BE STANDARD FOR THE MODEL 6.2. ITEMS THAT MAY BE CHANGED BUT MUST BE OFF THE SAME MAKE OR MODEL BIKE MANUFACTURED BEFORE OR UP TO THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE OF THE MACHINE .Front & rear disc brake rotors and calipers Triple clamps Frame (main structure) Swing arm Crank cases external appearance Carburettors (needles jets and diaphragm springs may be changed ) Front & rear wheels - must be same width as standard and be in compliance with Australian Design Rules for normal road use . (no lightweight race rims ) Front fork (externals must be standard) fork caps optional. Swapping from upside down forks to conventional forks either way IS NOT PERMITTED . Rear shock ( may be re-valved, re-gassed, re-sprung and a remote reservoir may be fitted to suit rider ). Fairing and seat unit ( can be changed to a single seat unit ) 7. TMCC FORMULA 3 – 650 cc FOUR STROKE TWIN MACHINE SPECIFICATIONS 7.1 Subject to the required and permitted alterations set out below, 650 Twins competing in TMCC Formula 3 must: a) Carry all relevant compliance plates, (ADR); b) Be eligible for registration in all states and territories in which they complete; c) Be of a make and model lawfully sold in Australia; d) Be as constructed by, or modified with the approval of, the manufacturer so as to conform with Australian design laws for normal road use; and e) Be two-cylinder four-stroke engine of a capacity between 399-650cc + or - 5cc 7.2 Tyres must: a) Be commercially available in Australia; b) Be of the machine manufacturer’s recommended speed rating or higher; c) Be worn no more than to the minimum tread depth indicators. d) Not have an augmented or modified tread pattern. e) May be competition use only tyres 7.3 To be permitted to compete, a machine, without rider, empty of fuel, but with all other fluids at optimum levels, must weigh no less than 110kg plus the engine capacity divided by 13 (1% tolerance at post race control will be allowed) {.ie 650cc =160kg (110kg +650/13=110+50=160kg.) 400cc=140.7kg (110+400/13=140.7kg).} 7.4 The following must be removed: a) Headlamp; b) Tail lamp; c) Reflectors; d) Horns; e) Passenger footrests; f) Traffic indicators; g) Rear vision mirrors; h) Centre and side stands; i) Registration plate / bracket and label holder; Any sharp edges left by the removal of these components must be protected by a rolled edge or beading of minimum 3mm diameter. 7.4 Engine and gearbox breathing hoses and tubes, and the radiator overflow bottle vent, must exhaust into a catch bottle of no less than 300 cc capacity ( local track requirement ). 7.5 The following maybe removed: a) Passenger handholds and footrests assemblies; b) Rear number plate bracket; 7.6 The following may be replaced or modified: a) Fairings, screen, rear body work, seat, mudguards, tank covers and frame side covers. Machines with a full fairing must be fitted with a belly pan as per the GCR’s . b) Mounting bracket for fairing, screen and instruments; c) Spark plug type, leads and caps; d) External gearing e) Brake pads, linings, brake hoses and master cylinder; f) Muffler or Slip-on only; g) Front suspension springs and fork internal components but external appearance must remain unchanged; h) Rear suspension - OEM rear shock to be retained ,may be revalved / resprung ; i) Fuel metering jets and air filter; j) Fuel injection systems may be reprogrammed , throttle bodies to remain OEM . k) Instruments; l) Handle bars and handle bar controls m) Footrests / rearsets – folding or shear-type footpegs must be used . 7.7 The following may be added: a) Steering damper; b) Ride height adjuster; c) Ignition cutout lanyard; d) Quick shifter;8. EXHAUST SYSTEMS 9. The implementation and enforcement of the TMCC FORMULA 3 rules is governed by the TMCC ROAD RACING Committee . Penalties for non-compliance will be determined by the committee .All machines – exhaust systems may be modified or replaced . Noise emission shall not exceed parameters as defined in the current edition of The Motorcycling Australia Manual Of Motorcycle Sport .
